5 reasons why you should stay in hostels
In a few weeks I’m going to Barcelona for a couple of days. It’s just a short break, but I’m looking forward to it so much. My last trip was the first week of March to Austria to go skiing. It was great, but it wasn’t very relaxing. As skiing trips with 9 other people seldom is. So these upcoming days in the Spanish city I’m going to try to unwind. Since I’m going by myself I’ll stay in a hostel. I’ve traveled alone many times and most of these travels I stayed in hostels. For me, as a solo traveler and a woman over 30, these accommodations are perfect. Here are 5 reasons why you should stay in hostels, also when you’re over 30.
Connect with people more easily and faster
The number one reason for me to stay in hostels is the possibility to meet people. You don’t have to go to a cafe or bar and hope you can start a conversation with someone there. When you sit down in the common area of your hostel, if you stay in a dorm room or if you join organized activities there will be people around you to engage with. Basically, you don’t have to go look for people to chat with and a bonus is that they’re from all over the world!
Good and open vibes
Of course not in every hostel you’ll like the vibe, but usually in this type of accommodation there are travelers. People that are open minded, interested in the world and like to meet people from other cultures. You’ll find the best places by checking out the reviews guests left.
It’s not just for ‘young’ people
Don’t think hostels are only for twenty something travelers. It’s just not true. No, you won’t feel old or be the oldest person there. It’s all about your own mindset. Most hostels do not have age limits, so you are also welcome everywhere you’d like to go.
Hostels are comfortable
Read that again. I know people have certain perceptions about hostels. They may have a negative idea about them, because they stayed in a dorm room once when they were a kid. Believe me when I say hostels can be very modern and comfortable. You don’t have to sleep on the floor. For example, Selina is a brand that offers stay, co work and co living for travelers. Yes, it’s a hostel.
They offer private options
If you don’t feel like sharing a room and sleeping in a bunk bed there are other options. A lot of hostels offer a private option. You get the privacy of your own space and you can enjoy the hostel vibes. At some places you can book a private room with three or four beds, which can be very convenient if you met other backpackers and you want to have the room for just you. You don’t always have to share.
So I’ll stay at Yeah Hostel again when I go to Barcelona. When I was in the city last October I stayed there and it was a good experience. The beds are very comfortable, there is airconditioning in the rooms, they have family dinner and organize all kinds of activities. Plus the location is excellent! What else do you want? I booked a bed in a 4 bed female dorm room and I think it will be great!
